SEO needs to be 'consumer friendly'

It is important for those in IT marketing to optimise websites with keywords that consumers are likely to search for, a new study has found.
Terms that industry insiders believe are the most relevant will not necessarily increase website traffic, the study by unbiased.co.uk has revealed.
The website looked at the top 100 search terms used for people looking for independent financial advisers (IFAs) to conduct their research.
It found that the most consumer-friendly terminology ranked far ahead of words used commonly in the industry.
Chief executive of the website, Karen Barrett, said the results highlighted the importance of making website content "consumer friendly" and ensuring those working in IT sales and marketing used the right keywords to improve search engine optimisation.
"The online world is fast-moving and [firms] risk missing out on vital business by not understanding the consumers online search behaviour," she added.
Recently, a survey by Econsultancy and Guava found that 81 per cent of firms are now choosing to do their IT marketing through social networking site Twitter, while 78 per cent favour Facebook to market themselves.
