Social media 'becoming established' in IT marketing

Social media networks are becoming a "more established channel" in the realms of IT marketing, advertising and public relations, it has been claimed.

A new service, which is geared towards social media understanding and analytics, has been launched and it could help those working in IT marketing and sales.

The tool, called NM Incite, is being backed by media giants Nielsen and McKinsey. It is aimed at helping companies monitor their IT marketing through the platform.

Commenting on the service, Tim Gibbon, the co-founder and editor of the Social Media Portal, said: "Professionals, both agency and brand-side, are eager to demonstrate the return on investment of involvement in social media."

A recent survey by Econsultancy and Guava found that 81 per cent of companies use IT marketing through Twitter, while 78 per cent market themselves through Facebook.

"At this time, with so many promotional channels that social media touches, a multi-layered approach may be a prudent way to at least ensure that the right type of data and information is sourced," Mr Gibbon said.
