Social media can 'boost IT marketing performance'

Social media can improve the performance of search engine IT marketing campaigns, it has been suggested.
Networking websites now receive more internet visits in the UK than search engines, according to figures published recently by online competitive intelligence service Experian Hitwise.
But the good news for those working in IT sales and marketing is that search and social media "are very closely connected", according to Jake Hird, senior research analyst at Econsultancy, the digital marketing and ecommerce community.
"If you have a social media presence you're more likely to be visible in a search result because of the authority of the site," he explained.
Social media can be used for IT marketing to help build links and boost firms' online presence, Mr Hird added. Blogging, which is another form of social media, could improve companies' "natural search visibility".
He emphasised that there is a "very strong connection" between the two mediums and the proof of this is can be seen in paid search emerging on social networking websites.
