State schools to provide iGCSE in ICT

Children in state schools are to be given the opportunity to take the international GCSE (iGCSE) in ICT, which could boost their chances when competing for information security jobs and information risk management jobs in later life.
The iGCSES are harder versions of traditional GCSEs and are widely respected by universities and employers.
It is also thought that they will better prepare pupils for the challenges posed by studying ICT at Further and Higher Education.
Commenting on the move, schools minister Nick Gibb said: "By removing the red tape, state school pupils will have the opportunity to leave school with the same set of qualifications as their peers from the top private schools - allowing them to better compete for university places and for the best jobs."
Earlier this month, the Ashdown Group Jobs Index highlighted that the number of IT jobs on offer increased in four of the first five months of 2010.
