IT marketing through Twitter 'is soaring'

Twitter is now the most widely-used social media website for IT marketing, according to recent research published by digital marketing and ecommerce community Econsultancy and digital marketing agency Guava.

The adoption of Twitter in IT sales and marketing is soaring and firms are using 'retweeting' to spread and monitor their messages, said TweetMeme, a Twitter links aggregation service.

Jim Monks, chief operating officer at TweetMeme, said: "Twitter's still growing like crazy; we're growing about ten per cent a month, so we know how fast Twitter is growing."

He added that firms could measure how many times a Twitter message is reposted, meaning they can monitor where their IT marketing goes and what is being said about them.

Mr Monks explained that the 'retweet' button on TweetMeme can help increase firms' online presence because it "doesn't force people to leave the website when they retweet."

The Econsultancy research showed that 81 per cent of companies now use Twitter for their IT marketing. This puts the social media channel slightly ahead of rival Facebook.
