Worldwide IT spending is set to increase by 3.8 per cent this year, according to new research. This could affect the business continuity approaches that IT firms adopt.
Market data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that capital spending on PCs, servers, storage and network equipment has soared in recent quarters.
Those looking for IT sales and marketing jobs or IT security jobs may be interested to know that Karen Price, the chief executive officer of e-skills UK, said she would encourage people to "build on their existing skills by doing a formal qualification".
Having additional IT skills like the ITQ (the National Vocational Qualification for IT users that is overseen by e-skills UK) could help to open up job opportunities, she said.
"IT literacy is now a pre-requisite for employment, with 92 per cent of new recruits required to have skills in the use of IT," Ms Price added.
Businesses are still being cautious about their spending due to the instability still being experienced around the world as the economies recover, which has led to firms still holding off on some project spending, said Stephen Minton, vice president of Worldwide IT Markets and Strategies at IDC.
